Let's go again

So after the success you, the residents and community, got with closing down Kilhey Court to house illegal economic migrants we said we would go again for the Britannia. Click here for that story.

So, we started by putting a number of FOI requests in to the council and Home Office again and we await those responses, but we feel that we cannot wait to start the public campaign any longer. We say this for a number of reasons. This is due to it not being fair that we say that Kilhey Court is not a suitable accommodation for those being housed there for the same reason as we gave on Kilhey Court as no support network for them here. Plus other external voices are coming into the community. We have to live with the issue and us Standishers are quite capable of dealing with the issue and holding those to account that need to be, whether that is the local Standish and Shevington Cllrs, who have all gone in hiding again, the Labour controlled council, who we exposed for not having sent a letter of objection at all, right through to the home office and the Tory Government that must think dump the migrants in Labour seats. All the while we the community and residents are meant to be silent and just accept it.

But the most important is our safety. I say this because I have seen an email from Standish Cllr Ray Whittingham saying that it is not advisable now to walk alone - day or night - down the line. That story is here. We know the huge number of call out to the hotels and we have now had two separate assaults on one man and one woman. This has also been reported in the local press and GMP have commented on it, so not hearsay. Then, there are other allegations and rumours going around but we have enough evidence from the above ( Cllrs and police) to say our community is not safe. And before the raving looney left start - we are not being racists in Standish on this, but factual, and concerned for our safety and more importantly, our children's safety. We are not saying that it is all the residents housed there but we as a Community do not have the luxury of being able to decide who is a good person or a bad person, as our elected officials and council know about the issue and fail us to protect us or inform us.

So, we are now going to go live again with a new petition to call the Britannia to close on all the grounds above. We will hold a public meeting on Market Place on Saturday 25th November at noon, opposite the lychgate ( posters coming soon). A poss walk to the hotel and back on the day of the march after the public meeting. We have to go outside as the council after our last time got the community centre not to allow us again. Shame on them all! A post that has been done here on that.

Where the local Cllrs and Council failed to get London to listen you did, via the petition, publicity and public meetings that you joined in and attended. So, we need you all again. They want you to all be happy with Kilhey Court being closed, yet allow our safety to be at jeopardy. No more will we allow them to treat us like that. Make a note of the public meeting on the 25th November at noon opposite the Lychgate as last time. Keep checking back as the petition will be live soon. This will go to Downing Street as the last one did.

(This article is written by Standish Views Matter founder Gareth Fairhurst, who admits in public that he is dyslexic and he only says this as one of our ward Cllr's and other Standish Voice members belittle him in public forums and on SV page for this. If there are some grammatical errors he apologises in advance.)
